With two regattas in the books, our sailors have already competed in Z420s, FJs, current, rain, light wind and medium wind! Although stronger winds were predicted for this past weekend due to Hurricane Florence, we ran into some light and shifty conditions at the Central Early Fall Regatta hosted by Monmouth University. However, our team took advantage of the sunny weather after an overcast week at Villanova.
Day one of the regatta was sailed by the lady Wildcats. In A division, skipper Bailey Cornog sailed with Claire Coppola. In B division, skipper Kate Miller sailed with Brooklyn Curtin. Despite our lack of practice sailing in FJs, Villanova finished day one in 7th place behind UPenn and Washington College, closely followed by Virginia Tech.
Day two of the regatta, saw an even lighter breeze. A division was sailed by skipper, Max Gillette, and crewed by Brian Tiernan. B division comprised of skipper, Curtis Aaron, and crew, Dylan Crider. We finished off the weekend in 8th, three points behind 6th place.
Next stop, St. Mary’s College for the LUCE Regatta, a qualifier for the 2018 War Memorial Regatta. We are more than excited to be hosted for the second year in a row by the Aaron family!
